Ring Recycling

Is there an old engagement ring from a former relationship lurking in your jewel box? Or perhaps the one your husband gave you years ago is somehow not your style anymore. Not to worry. As they say, a diamond is forever — even though its setting might be out of date. Let us help you bring your tired engagement ring into the new millennium with some technical know-how and an assist from you.

Rules of Addition and Subtraction
The best rule of thumb for restyling your old ring is simple arithmetic: add or subtract. You can add more diamonds or colored gemstones to create a fashionable look, such as a three-stone ring or a pendant, or you can subtract, take out the center stone and redesign it into a stylish pendant or pin.

Size and Shape Matter
Many women prefer not to turn an old engagement ring into another type of ring, but there are lots of other choices. When deciding how to use the center diamond for a new piece, be sure to take its size and shape into consideration. For example, if it's a round, brilliant cut and from one-quarter carat to two carats in size, it will make a beautiful pendant or slide. Our jewelers can remove the stone from its setting, create a stylish bezel around it and add a hidden bail at the back so it can be worn on a favorite chain. If the old setting was yellow gold and you prefer white gold or platinum, the metal can be easily replaced to suit your new jewelry wardrobe.

What About Fancy Shapes?
If the center diamond is a pear, marquise or princess cut, it will make a wonderful centerpiece for a necklace. By designing a complementary setting around the diamond and accenting it with pavé, you can turn that unworn ring into a stunning new design that will give you years of wearing pleasure.
